The Peery Philosophy
it takes a village to raise a pianist
If
people knew how hard I had to work to gain my mastery, it
wouldn't seem wonderful at all. Michelangelo
We love our students and believe they have the ability to accomplish anything. They are great kids! We give our students the best by providing them with a curriculum that is proven, time-tested and produces amazing results. Hear our Students Play
. Peery Piano Academy students deserve the best and our curriculum does not take short cuts giving every one of our students the opportunity to excel.
Our students first learn to work. Next, they experience the feeling of achievement. Then they can choose their path of focus and accomplish anything.
Christie Skousen, Founder of PPA
Mastery takes work. Our students know there is no short-cut method that results in mastery. They believe that piano study is one of the most fulfilling and effective vehicles to learning the process of mastery.
This is what a human being does. Fish swim and birds fly; humans work. This is our life and our joy.
Zen Philosophy
Too often beginning piano lessons ignore the reality of work in the quest for short term fun. The resulting poor habits are hard, if not impossible to change. This impedes progress and future joy.
It takes a village to raise a pianist.
So how do PPA students achieve the results they do? How are our students able to work towards a goal that is very long term and that takes work?
First we provide them with a world class curriculum with step by step daily, weekly and monthly goals.
Second we offer them an extensive support system that sets each student up to succeed. Each aspect of our 'village' plays a vital role in their journey towards musical mastery.
'Village' Members of the Peery Academy
The Practice Partner - Key to the student's success, the practice partner (aka parent) is with the student every day at home supporting, committing and encourgaing him to reach his goal.
The Guide - The Guide (aka Teacher) provides instruction, direction and acceptance. The student comes to the Guide with work accomplished and the Guide compliments her on what she did well, instructs her on what can be done better and directs her on what to do next.
The Assistant - Our assistants are Peery Graduates who are still on their musical journey and fantastic examples to our students. They are friendly and supportive. Our younger students aspire to be like them.
The Director - Our director provides answers, support and vision to the Academy. He is there to answer your questions, maintain relationships and ensure that you are getting out of your experience what you expect.
The Master Teacher - Once each month students play for our Master Teacher. She provides detailed feedback, encouragement and direction. She ensures they are on the path to good habits, process and mastery.
Friends - Classes involve groups of at least 4. Our students are motivated by one another. They form friendships and are excited to come to lessons to see one another. They enjoy the social aspect of music making that is missing in private instruction.
The Parent Buddy - Each new parent is assigned a parent buddy. The parent buddy has been where you are and can provide support, explanation and advice.
By repeating something a hundred
thousand times, anybody can learn to do anything. After that
much practice we can make anything our own. If we practice
well one hundred thousand times, we will become geniuses.
